St Basil the Great, tr. Lowther Clarke, 1925

115. Rule 115: How We Should Obey One Another. (R. 64)

As servants obey their masters, according to the command given us by the Lord, “He that would be great among you, let him be last of all, and servant of all.”1 To which He adds in more persuasive manner: ‘Just as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister.”2 And as the apostle says: “Through love of the Spirit be servants one to another.”3
