St Basil the Great, tr. Lowther Clarke, 1925
Rule 242: What Does, In Love of the Brethren Tenderly Affectioned One to Another, Mean?
Affection implies a heightening of friendship when there is desire, and fervent feelings of the lover towards the loved one. But, that love of the brethren should not be superficial but innate and fervent, it is said: In love of the brethren tenderly affectioned one to another.”1
