St Basil the Great, tr. Lowther Clarke, 1925
249. Rule 249: What is Holy and What is Just? (R. 170)
I consider that to be holy,2 which is suitable and due from m inferiors to their superior, according to the law of superiority; and just, that which is given to each man according to the merit of his works. If we consider what is holy, then there is only consideration of and recompense for the best acts; but if what is just, then there is also examination of and recompense for evil acts.
