St Basil the Great, tr. Lowther Clarke, 1925
39. Rule 39: What of a Man Who Obeys and Yet Murmurs? (R. 71)
Since the apostle said: ‘“Do all things without murmurings and disputes,”1 the murmurer is alienated from the unity of the brethren and his work cannot be used by them.2 Such a man is clearly suffering from unbelief3 and failure in regard to hope.
Notes
- Phil. ii. 14.
- See on B. 38.
- This is explained by B. 38. His faith fails and he does not see Christ in the Superior. Cf. F. 28.
