St Basil the Great, tr. Lowther Clarke, 1925
Rule 77: What is the Difference Between Deceit and Malignity?
Malignity, so I reckon, is a fundamental and hidden baseness of character: deceit is sedulous plotting, when a man feigning something good and holding it before another as an enticement works thereby the success of his plot.
