St Basil the Great, tr. Lowther Clarke, 1925

He must remember that, in the words of Scripture, it is God that giveth food to all flesh.1 Moreover there is need of care that he be worthy of his food as a workman of God; for this is not put in his own power but is dispensed by him who is entrusted with this care in the right season and measure, as it is written: “And distribution was made unto each, according as any one had need.”2
