Canons of the Apostles and the Fathers, NPNF II.14
Chapter 82
We do not allow any servants to be promoted to the clergy without the consent of their masters, [to the troubling of their houses.1] But if any servant should appear worthy of receiving an order,2 as our Onesimus appeared, and his masters agree and liberate him, and send him out of their house, he may be ordained.
