Catechism of the Orthodox Eastern Church (1888)
Ignatios Moschakis, tr. Baker, 1894
d2
The translation of this brief1 Catechism has been to me a work of great interest and instruction.
The edition in question was published in Athens in 1888, and it is accompanied by two warrants, one being the imprimatur of the Sacred Synod, and the other a warrant from the Bureau of Religion and Public Education, enjoining its sole use in the schools for a period of four years.
A most suggestive clause in the title-page is also worthy of mention, in which it is stated that “The Catechism obtained the prize in the last examination of educational books, and is the only one to be used in the schools of either sex, whether public, municipal, or private.”
My warm thanks are due to Mademoiselle Ponseta of Alexandria, for her very kind and complete revision of the translation.

Notes
- A much enlarged edition was issued in 1890, with the imprimatur of the Sacred Synod, and “in accordance with the programme of the ‘Bureau of Education and Religion,’ for use in schools and female seminaries in Greece.”
