Meditations on the Divine Liturgy
Nikolai Gogol, tr. Alexeieff, 1913
Introduction by the Author
The object of this book is to show those as yet little acquainted with our Liturgy, with what completeness and depth of consecutive Meaning it is informed. To this end there are here chosen from the many commentaries of the fathers and teachers of the Church only such as are accessible to all by reason of their simplicity, and which serve especially to show the regular succession of one act to another. The intention of the compiler is to impress upon the reader the order of the whole. He feels assured that to every one who attentively follows the Liturgy the deep, inner meaning will reveal itself.
