St Gregory of Tours, tr. Dalton, 1927
Book 3, 25. Of the Goodness of Theudebert
Confirmed in the possession of his kingdom, Theudebert showed himself a great king and distinguished for every excellence. He ruled with justice, venerated the bishops, was liberal to the churches, relieved the poor, and distributed many benefits on all hands with piety and friendliest goodwill. He generously remitted to the churches in Auvergne all the tribute which they used to pay the royal domain.
